have announced that Dele Alli will continue to undergo his rehabilitation programme with the club, despite his contract expiring next month. The playmaker has been recovering from a significant long-term injury for most of this season and the Toffees are keen to aid his recovery.

Alli has not featured for Everton this season, with his last appearances for the club coming in the 2022/23 campaign when he was brought on twice for late cameos. With such limited minutes under his belt, the midfielder was expected to be made a free agent this summer.

However, Everton have announced that they will not be parting ways with the 28-year-old so quickly. Instead, the Merseyside outfit have revealed that they are keen to ensure that the England international is able to recover from a long-term groin injury at the club and intend on continuing to work with the midfielder beyond his contract expiry.

In a club announcement about imminent departures, Everton wrote: “Dele, whose current contract also ends next month, will remain with the Club while he continues an intensive rehabilitation programme from a long-term groin injury, which he has recently been undergoing away from Merseyside.”

Everton went on to reveal that Andre Gomes and Andy Lonergan will leave the club this summer when their contracts expire, with Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison returning to Villarreal and Leeds respectively following their successful loan spells.

The Toffees have offered Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman one-year contracts to remain at Goodison Park, whilst Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contract has been extended until 2025 after the one-year option in his deal was activated.

Alli will be hoping that he can bounce back to full fitness after recovering from his surgery, and his talk of returning to international football will certainly encourage potential suitors that he still has something to offer at the very top level.

Speaking about the playmaker, Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell said: “Dele’s contract is coming to an end, but our medical team will continue to support him while he completes the intensive rehabilitation programme he is currently undergoing following the operation he had earlier this year. Both Sean and I agree it is important we ensure Dele’s rehabilitation is not impacted by his contract situation at such a critical point in his recovery.”
