The Chase fans floored over 'insane' offer as contestant narrowly misses huge prize

The Chasers thought one quiz show hopeful's ambitions were set far too low on tonight's edition of the ITV show.

Shaun Wallace tells player he could've won the full £500k

Beat The Chasers had viewers gasping in frustration over one contestant's "insane" offer, after Shaun Wallace confided he thought the hopeful could have done much better. The contestant, called George, admitted to host Bradley Walsh that he rated himself as a "quizzer".

However, when it came down to crunch-time, he may have drastically underestimated his own abilities. He told the nation he thought he could beat four Chasers and net the £50,000 cash prize.

Yet, if he'd gone all the way and tried to beat all six, he could have achieved a £500,000 win. Perhaps George didn't have the confidence to picture himself increasing his winnings ten-fold, but with 30 seconds left on the clock, Shaun Wallace confided he believed in him, insisting: "You could have won half a million pounds, I think." Paul Sinha concurred: "You have every right to rate yourself as a quizzer."

The audience erupted into applause, but tension broke out on Twitter afterwards as one fan marvelled: "500k, Jesus Christ. Not seen that high of an offer before. #beatthechasers #thechase." Another agreed: "£500,000? That's actually insane."

A third exclaimed: "He could've gone for the half a million!" while a fourth chimed in to say: "Splashing the cash tonight!"

Meanwhile, subsequent contestant Andrea saw some viewers complain that the questions posed to her had been too easy.

"In tonight’s £90k win, two of the questions to the winner were 'What colour is the flesh of a pineapple?' and 'In golf, what material would you find in a bunker?'" one tweeter groaned.

Meanwhile, away from Beat The Chasers, the standard edition of The Chase also made waves this week, as Darragh Ennis made a brutal dig at Bradley Walsh.

Viewers found themselves openmouthed with shock after Bradley quizzed whether Darragh had now "given up" on singing.

Keeping the banter coming, he shot back of the host: "Bradley gave up too, halfway through the second album!"

It was a reference to him stepping back from the music industry after 2017, despite his debut becoming the highest-selling first album by any British artist that year.

Meanwhile, Bradley might have suffered a backlash over his stint hosting the Gladiators revival show with son Barney over on BBC One, but one of the contestants gave the duo a passionate display of support last week.
